Twins activated RHP Zack Weiss from the 60-day injured list and sent him outright to Triple-A St. Paul.

Weiss had made five rehab appearances on his way back from a shoulder strain that cost him the first three months of the season, but they weren’t good enough to force the Twins to include him in their plans. The 32-year-old was claimed off waivers from the Red Sox in the offseason after finishing with a 3.21 ERA in 14 innings last season.

Twins promoted RHP prospect Zebby Matthews to Triple-A St. Paul.

Matthews has been extremely impressive this season, compiling a microscopic 1.95 ERA and 31 percent strikeout rate across 78 innings between High-A Cedar Rapids and Double-A Wichita, and is one step closer to the big leagues. The 24-year-old righty, who pairs a five-pitch mix with stellar control, was an eighth-round selection in the 2022 MLB Draft and is rapidly emerging as one of the better pitching prospects in the entire fantasy landscape.

Twins sent RHP Caleb Boushley outright to Triple-A St. Paul.

Boushley went unclaimed on waivers after being designated for assignment over the weekend and will hang around with Minnesota as extra organizational relief depth. The 30-year-old righty made just one relief appearance for the Twins during a brief stint with the club back in mid-May.

Twins acquired 3B Rylan Bannon from the Mets for cash considerations.

Bannon bolster’s Minnesota’s injury-depleted corner infield depth in the upper minors coming out of the All-Star break. The 28-year-old righty hasn’t appeared in the big leagues since last year and has gotten into seven games over the last two years between the Orioles, Braves and Astros.

Twins selected Kansas State SS Kaelen Culpepper with the No. 21 selection of the 2024 MLB Draft.

Culpepper was a three-year start for the Wildcats and hit .328/.419/.574 while adding 17 steals and 11 homers over 61 games in 2024. The 21-year-old is an assertive hitter who has shown a willingness to get on via walk, and his strong bat speed and willingness to go the other way gives him a good chance to hit for a high average at the next level. There are power questions that weren’t answered by a bad showing in the Cape Cod League (.699 OPS with a .318 slugging percentage), but 15-plus homer seasons are possible with added loft. He also will compensate for so-so power with the ability to steal bases, so Culpepper is a solid -- if flawed -- fantasy prospect.

Chris Paddack allowed two runs — one earned — and struck out six in five innings against the Giants on Sunday.

Paddack’s velocity wasn’t very good today — his 91.5 mph average on his fastball was down 1.9 mph from his season norm — but he was rather successful anyway. He’s pitched five innings and allowed two runs in both starts since coming off the injured list on Monday. He’s mostly an AL-only option going forward.
Jhoan Duran

Jhoan Duran took a loss after giving up a triple to the only batter he faced Sunday against the ninth.

Opening the bottom of the ninth in a tie game, Duran gave up a well-placed 88.8 mph flyball to the right-center gap. Mike Yastrzemski tried stretching the hit into a triple, and relay man Brooks Lee threw the ball into the dugout to end the game. The run was unearned, of course.
Carlos Correa

Carlos Correa is dealing with plantar fasciitis in his right foot.

The issue was confirmed after going for an MRI. Correa dealt with plantar fasciitis in his left foot last season, but this current issue isn’t believed to be as severe. The All-Star break comes at a good time for him.

Byron Buxton is not in Sunday’s lineup against the Giants.

The banged-up Buxton will miss his second straight game as the first half comes to a close. Manuel Margot will once again start in center field, but this time he’ll bat leadoff against Blake Snell.
Caleb Boushley

Twins designated RHP Caleb Boushley for assignment.

The move clears a spot for the newly-promoted Diego A. Castillo on the 40-man roster. Boushley made one appearance with the Twins back in May and posted a 4.68 ERA in 16 starts in Triple-A despite some solid peripherals.
