FA Relief Pitcher #51

Braves released LHP Ben Bowden.

Bowden latched on with the Braves last November on a minor league pact and didn’t make it back to the big leagues. The 29-year-old southpaw last appeared in the majors during the 2021 season when he made 39 appearances for the Rockies. He compiled a serviceable 4.03 ERA, 1.48 WHIP and 35/17 K/BB ratio across 29 innings (27 appearances) this season for Triple-A Gwinnett.

ATL Starting Pitcher #19

Huascar Ynoa (elbow) allowed one run over two innings on Tuesday in a minor league rehab start in the Rookie-level Arizona Complex League.

Ynoa didn’t record a strikeout and also didn’t walk anyone. It was his first rehab outing since April 14 as he continues to work his way back from a stress reaction in his right elbow. He hasn’t appeared in the big leagues since undergoing Tommy John surgery back in 2022. It seems unlikely that he’ll return to Atlanta’s starting rotation mix, but he could factor into their late-season plans as a multi-inning relief weapon, if healthy.

Braves INF/OF Brian Anderson elected free agency.

Anderson has refused an outright minor league assignment after going unclaimed on waivers and will head back out to test the free agent waters. The versatile 31-year-old went hitless in five at-bats over three contests during a brief stint with the Braves.

Braves sent INF/OF Brian Anderson outright to Triple-A Gwinnett.

Anderson is off the 40-man roster after going hitless in five plate appearances with Atlanta. The versatile 31-year-old could elect free agency, or he has the option to report to Triple-A to provide organizational depth for Atlanta for the remainder of 2024.

ATL Starting Pitcher #19

Huascar Ynoa (elbow) is beginning a rehab assignment Tuesday at Atlanta’s Florida Complex League site.

Ynoa is on the 60-day injured list with a right elbow stress reaction. The right-hander is currently on the 60-day injured list and can’t come off that list until the middle of August, but it’s possible he could help Atlanta’s bullpen over the final month-plus.

Atlanta selected Saguaro HS (AZ) LHP Cam Caminiti with the No. 24 selection of the 2024 MLB Draft.

Caminiti is the cousin of former MVP Ken Caminiti, and the first prep pitcher selected. The 17-year-old (18 in August) southpaw has three plus pitches at his disposal, and he continues to improve his feel for pitching with a good chance to have the type of command that would allow him to be a starting pitcher. He’s an excellent athlete, and his 92-94 mph fastball will likely be a high 90s offering as he fills out his 6-foot-2, 195-pound frame. The upside for Caminiti is palpable, but prep arms are always the riskiest fantasy investments.

Travis d’Arnaud blasted a pair of home runs and drove in four on Sunday afternoon, helping to power the Braves to a 6-3 victory over the Padres in San Diego.

The 35-year-old backstop victimized Stephen Kolek for his mammoth 431-foot (107.2 mph EV) three-run blast in the sixth inning that extended the Braves’ lead to 5-1. He then chipped in a 445-foot (109.7 mph EV) solo shot off of Jeremiah Estrada in the eighth inning to increase their advantage to 6-3. He finished the day 2-for-3 plus a walk, three runs scored and he even picked up his first stolen base of the year. On the season, d’Arnaud is now slashing .246/.308/.465 with nine homers and 32 RBI.
Ozzie Albies

ATL Second Baseman #1

Ozzie Albies went 2-for-3 with a double, walk and a run scored on Sunday as the Braves triumphed over the Padres to wrap up the first half of the season.

Albies smacked a one-out double off of Randy Vasquez in the opening inning but wound up getting stranded at third base. He then led off the fourth inning with a single, swiped second base and raced around to score the Braves’ first run on an RBI single off the bat of Matt Olson. The 27-year-old second baseman finishes the first half hitting .258/.312/.410 with eight homers, 44 RBI and eight stolen bases (in nine attempts).
Raisel Iglesias

ATL Relief Pitcher #26

Raisel Iglesias picked up his 22nd save of the season on Sunday afternoon, working a scoreless ninth inning to protect a three-run lead against the Padres.

Iglesias came on with a three-run lead to preserve in the ninth inning and he made sure that it stood up and the Braves went into the All-Star break on a high note. The 34-year-old right-hander got Kyle Higashioka on a swinging third strike, David Peralta on a line drive to center and Jurickson Profar on a line drive to right to end it. Iglesias heads into the All-Star break with a 2.02 ERA, 0.79 WHIP and a 31/7 K/BB ratio over 35 2/3 innings to go with 22 saves and one victory.
Chris Sale

ATL Starting Pitcher #51

Chris Sale picked up his 13th victory of the season on Sunday, limiting the Padres to just one run on four hits over his five innings of work.

The 35-year-old southpaw struck out four batters on the afternoon while issuing a pair of free passes. The lone tally against him came on an RBI single by Xander Bogaerts in the opening inning. Sale was lifted after only 79 pitches (55 strikes) in this one, but the Braves’ bullpen was able to hang on for him. Sale got eight whiffs on the afternoon — six of those on his slider — while registering a CSW of 28 percent. He’ll head into the All-Star break with a 13-3 record, 2.70 ERA, 0.95 WHIP and a 140/24 K/BB ratio over 110 innings through his first 18 starts with the Braves.
