Two Experienced SAS Professional Needed—Contract-to-hire.
High Impact technologies (www.hitactics.com), a SAS Alliance Partner, is seeking two experienced SAS Professionals. The following is a description of the roles and requirements we are seeking. To apply, please send a resume to jwhitehurst@hitactics.com or call Joe Whitehurst at (404) 963-5467
SAS Healthcare Data & Analysis Programmers: This Consultant will help statistically align the clients data to make sure it’s structured properly. This is more of a “traditional” SAS programming role doing data manipulation & analysis, designed to help “inform” the client’s other activities such as their data modeling activities or their use of their BI or reporting layer. This Consultant will help the client better understand their data – what the data mean – what gaps exist in the data based on their requirements – how their data change. They want someone who can “profile” their data – create SAS libraries – perform statistical alignment between the data they have matched against their business requirements (looking for gaps). This role is less predictive analytics in nature and more “data analysis and manipulation” in nature with a strong focus of how the analysis fits into the healthcare IT space. Using Base SAS, EG, a little Graph & maybe some STAT and ACCESS to Teradata, flat files, and maybe SQL Server, the Consultant will generally access healthcare clinical records data, manipulate that data, analyze the data, profile the data and then transform the data via sorting, summarizing, joining and/or merging data, etc.—and then do some level of reporting as well, or structure the data for analysis to be performed by the other analyst role.
Background and Requirements:
The client is brand new to using SAS software. They are just now licensing two (2) PC-desktop copies of Analytics Pro (Base SAS, GRAPH, STAT and EG), with consideration in the future to evaluate server licensing for this as well, with possible evaluation of Enterprise Miner and/or EBI. (The Consultant will use this SAS Analytics Pro bundle to start.)
Recently, the client has been implementing an Informatica and Teradata DW, and now wants to move into applying more analytics to their data, while leveraging for the first time SAS software in doing so. They want to use SAS generally for data manipulation and basic (and future advanced) analytics, and, since they are brand new to using and understanding the value of SAS software, they want the consultants to help them with:
•	Building out their usage of SAS;
•	Understanding, communicating and educating the client’s staff how SAS could/should be used within their environment.  (The client will rely on the Consultants’ experience evaluating customer environments, and then effectively applying appropriate SAS functionality to address specific business issues.  The Consultant must demonstrate and apply advanced skills in evaluating and understanding the Client’s business and needs and then applying and communicating the real value of SAS to the organization.);
•	Combining SAS programming knowledge with healthcare data knowledge (if known) to work independently and make meaningful conclusions about the client’s business;
•	Coordinating, programming, analyzing and evaluating healthcare data using SAS;
•	Based on the client’s requests, accessing data, manipulating and analyzing the data via sorting, summarizing, joining and/or merging data, and then creating and delivering insights to business.
•	As part of the large Data Warehouse being built in Teradata (and Informatica), they’d like to use SAS to profile clinical records, and perform lots of data manipulation and data transformation, and perform basic analytics of their data so as to learn more about it – using such SAS functionality as DATA step, Frequencies, Sorting, Means and Standard Deviations, and/or SQL programming skills and experiences, along with use of other applicable PROCEDURES, and SAS MACROs.

The goal is to help the client’s create a library of tools and processes from which they can profile data, better understand it, and then convert it to information through understanding its behavior patterns, its stratification, how anomalies are associated with different dimensions of data, and then finally be able to identify where there may be gaps in the data with respect to what the business is asking of the data.
•	As part of all this (from a healthcare data standpoint), SAS software will predominantly be used to look at healthcare clinical records data, such as the following:

o	EHR (Electronic Health Record) data,
o	diagnosis codes (ICD-9 and ICD-10),
o	laboratory orders and results data,
o	immunizations data,
o	drug (NDC) data,
o	provider relationships data,
o	HEDIS &/or PQRI (Physician Quality Reporting Initiative) initiatives,
o	quality measures data,
o	CCD (Continuity of Care Document),
o	other possible clinical information data, from different subject areas used in the clinical space.

The more exposure the candidate has with this healthcare data and healthcare informatics overall, the better chance they will be selected. However, candidates will absolutely be considered that don’t have this experience.
NOTE: If the consultant does not have this experience, they should be able to quickly put the data into context with the overall healthcare concepts. To some degree, the client is willing to teach the consultant about the healthcare data, but they would prefer some exposure to this healthcare data – the more you have, the better chance of being selected.
(NOTE: CLINICAL SAS programmers or analysts supporting clinical trials and submissions generally do not work with this type of data.)
•	Data sources include sample datasets from EHR data in the form of a flat file which is transformed into another DB, so… flat files would be accessed and used. Other data analysis is performed in Teradata, so the data sources will be flat files and Teradata, and occasionally MS SQL Server…., but mostly what’s in the Teradata system. Role #1 (predominantly) will be reading and extracting data from Teradata, and maybe loading data back to Teradata in very low volumes (perhaps in the form of integrated data from a prototype perspective).
•	Business rules will be leveraged from within Informatica. Work will be very data oriented.
•	The client is in the process of creating their data warehouse infrastructure and processes now (standardizing, cleansing and loading data), but they want the SAS Consultant and SAS software to “help inform” the data transformation and data quality rules within the Teradata physical modeling aspects that they have not done so far.
•	SAS may be used for analysis in feeding the data warehouse to make sure they have the correct structure in place, and are identifying what’s not working, and to be used to really understand the data (how it changes – its characteristics).
•	As applicable, the Consultant must learn the client’s healthcare data and/or terms and data sources.

The Consultant must be an excellent communicator (both spoken and written forms) and be able to effectively foster interactive collaboration and discussions among the the client;s team. Also, the Consultant must be able to present analysis and conclusions in a logical and clear manner (but not to the senior management level), and must be able to effectively work as part of a team.
